Hi, I’m Jon McGill, the founder of Design N Mind Interiors. From a young age, I’ve been passionate about transforming spaces to make them functional, beautiful, and full of life. Whether I was rearranging furniture in my parents’ living room or designing stunning interiors for my clients, the joy of creating inspiring spaces has always been a driving force in my life.
A Journey to Design
Although my story started in Arizona, where I was born, my path to becoming an interior designer has taken me on quite the journey. Growing up, I often found myself rearranging rooms at home—a creative outlet that sparked my love for design. My parents encouraged my passion, with one simple rule: no moving their waterbed again!
Funny enough, my career almost took a different turn. In high school, I told my dad I wanted to be an accountant. That idea lasted one semester in college before I decided to follow my heart and pursue interior design. I earned my bachelor’s degree at Art Center Design College and later completed my Master’s in Interior Design at Arizona State University.
After graduation, I spent time in Santa Fe, NM, honing my craft and expanding my education. But like many who fall in love with Utah’s charm, my journey here began with a ski trip to visit a friend—and I’ve never looked back.
The Heart of My Design Philosophy
For me, the best part of being an interior designer is witnessing the transformation of a space and seeing the emotional reactions from my clients. There’s nothing more rewarding than watching someone light up as they walk into their newly designed space—happy tears included!
At Design N Mind Interiors, my goal has always been to take non-functional or outdated spaces and turn them into something extraordinary. It’s about more than just aesthetics—it’s about creating environments that bring joy, comfort, and ease to people’s lives.
Building the right team is also key to our success. I personally hand-select everyone we recommend we work with, from my trusted partnered contractors to sub-contractors and vendors, to ensure that every project is completed to the highest standard. This attention to detail and collaboration is what turns dream designs into reality.
Life Outside of Design
When I’m not working on transforming spaces, I’m spending time with my wonderful family. My husband, Nick, and I have been married for over ten years, and together we’re raising two energetic kids (both under the age of eight!) and keeping up with our four dogs.
We love exploring Utah’s incredible outdoors, camping, and making memories as a family. I’m also looking forward to getting back on the slopes one day and introducing my kids to skiing.
When we’re not out adventuring, I enjoy entertaining friends at home, where I usually cook way too much Mexican food. It’s a bit of a running joke—while I don’t eat leftovers, my friends always leave with a doggy bag!
